A rosin press is a machine used for cannabis extraction that uses heat and pressure for separating the terpenes and cannabinoids from raw plant materials. The extraction process does not involve the use of solvents to complete the separation. Cannabis businesses use sasquash rosin press to produce an extract called rosin, which is a highly concentrated cannabis form.
How Rosin Press Works
Rosin presses use heated plates for extracting cannabis compounds. First, the plant material is sorted into rosin bags and put between the plates that are squeezed together with significant force. As the resinous sap is separated and filtered, the resulting extract is pushed out from the hot plates and gathered on parchment paper.
Kinds of Products a Rosin Press Can Create
Rosins are not made equal. The following are the kinds of products that can be produced using a rosin press:
- Flower resin. To make this product, raw cannabis flowers are used as the starting material. Flower resin is the easiest type of rosin to make.
- Hash rosin. This is made using a bubble hash. Hash rosin is a pure product with only a few plant materials left behind after the extraction process.
- Soft rosin. This is created using a dry sift hash. It is more potent than flower rosin.
Depending on the pressure and heat used for the extraction process, the rosin can resemble shatter, wax, and budder. Using high heat in the process can produce solid and glass-like rosin.
Kinds of Rosin Presses
While rosin presses use the same extraction mechanism, there are different kinds of presses buyers can consider. These include the following:
- Manual rosin press. This press is operated by hand. It uses hand pumps and twist mechanisms. This is used by cannabis enthusiasts who want to have full control over the extracts.
- Hydraulic rosin press. This press is semi-manual, depending on the hand pumps to get the required force. However, users complete the job with less physical efforts since the heavy lifting is performed by the hydraulic cylinder.
- Pneumatic rosin press. This press makes use of an air compressor to achieve the needed force with little human intervention. It does not require a hand or foot pump. After it has been set up at the desired pressure and temperature, the user will just need to press a button to start the extraction process. This press is the gold standard for ease of use and quality.
- Electric rosin press. Typically, this press has smaller-than-average plates and can accommodate smaller capacities.
