How to Keep your Kitchen Sink in Good Condition

Every home must have a clean and efficient kitchen sink. The kitchen experiences a lot of daily use as utensils are cleaned here, and food prepared as well. With simple routine maintenance, you can maintain your kitchen sink’s performance and prevent clogs, leaks, and stains.

The best thing you need to do is to maintain your sink  clean.

Try to wipe down your stainless steel or enamel sink at least once daily. Use warm water and a mild detergent with a soft sponge or cloth. It will help eliminate grease, food particles left over from cooking meals, mineral deposits from hard water and other gunk that tends to cause clogs and stains after some time. Make sure that you scrub the drain hole area thoroughly.

It would help to disinfect your sink about once a week to control bacteria. Apply this solution directly onto the sink by spraying or wiping it, then allow it to remain there for several minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Make sure that you get into all the crevices. Doing this once weekly will help prevent microorganisms that produce stains and odors; additionally, they can potentially make people ill.

Apart from cleaning, preventing debris from going down the drain is crucial. Use drain catchers or filters to prevent scraps of food from accumulating in pipes at the bottom of your sink. Empty them daily while rinsing them out as well. Eventually, debris causes major clogs, which may require a plumber to snake pipes because unclogging them sometimes becomes difficult. For instance, rather than pouring grease down the sink, it is better first to wipe pots and pans with paper towels.

To keep the kitchen sink and faucet fixtures working smoothly over time, ensure each piece dries completely after being used up. Allowing water to accumulate results in mineral build-up in pipes plus corrosion over time. Also, run hot water through the system several minutes weekly to clear sediment in water heaters that impairs flow. If you have hard water that leaves stubborn stains on sinks because of its mineral richness, consider getting a water-softening system. The system filters out minerals so that the water flows without them.

Take care of your kitchen sink so that you never have any issues left unsolved and worn-out parts are replaced without delay. Sometimes, one needs to get down and do severe scrubbing, using more elbow grease as needed! In due course, the sink will work fine if it maintains its good state and drains correctly, thus avoiding significant accidents/repairs later.
