Top 10 Most Memorable Movie Props at Auction

Movie studios didn’t realize their IP’s worth until the 1970s. Staff used to store, reuse, and maintain props and costumes but now Movie Memorabilia started to become famous and expensive and grew in popularity.

1. Aragorn sword in the film The Return of the King’.

The hero instrument of Aragorn in the last installment of ‘The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Andúril, was auctioned by Sir Christopher Lee in 2014. The hammer price of the item exceeded the estimated value, selling for nearly double at €437,000. Do check out more about movie props auctions

2. Dorothy  footwear in the film ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

The “ruby red slippers” were silver in L. Frank Baum’s book. Later, it was red. The Smithsonian’s Museum of American History has one of four pairs of these slippers. One pair went missing from the Judy Garland Museum in 2005 and was resold in 2000. They sold for $660,000.

3.  Black Dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’.

Givenchy, a personal friend of Hepburn, created the opening black outfit. This dress has at least three copies. One is in Givenchy’s archive, another is in a Madrid costume museum, and a third was auctioned in 2006 for €807,000.

4.  Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

There were a total of six vehicles built by the film crew, one of which was a fully functional vehicle with the registration number “GEN11” in the United Kingdom. Multiple sightings of the object in issue occurred in 2010, and when it went up for sale in 2011, it fetched an amazing €805,000.

5.  KITT is the fictional car television series ‘Nightrider’.

The AI supercar left a lasting impression in 1982. A 1984 Pontiac Firebird, modified to resemble the iconic car featured in a certain movie, was recently auctioned on Catawiki. The vehicle was sold for a profitable amount of €34,000, just two years after its initial purchase.

6. The lightsaber wielded by Luke Skywalker.Luke’s legendary.

The appearance of a Jedi weapon is notably less fantastical in actuality. The distinguished weapon featured in ‘A New Hope’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ was sold for an impressive sum of €240,000 in 2008.

7. The DeLorean time machine featured in the film franchise ‘Back to the Future’.

Another notable movie memorabilia. Only four of the film trilogy’s DeLoreons remain. Two pieces are on display at Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando. Another 2011 auction sold a third object for €541,000.

8. Doors of Rick’s Cafe as featured in the film ‘Casablanca’.

Rick’s place of business has been visited by a lot of different people, and every character has walked through its door.  As soon as the cafe appears on the screen, the camera moves down and through the doors to show how busy it is inside. In 2014, the item was sold at an auction for €115,000.

9. Attire of  Marilyn Monroe in the film ‘The Seven Year Itch’.

One of the most iconic movie moments of all time is arguably when Marilyn Monroe’s dress was famously depicted. In 2011, the decision was made to sell the collection, and as a result, the legendary white dress was auctioned off for a significant sum of €4.6 million.

10. James Bond

In two Bond movies, the car that has come to be associated with the adored fictional British spy is prominently seen. It’s important to remember that there were two unique DB5 iterations: the “effects car” and the “road car.” Unrecovered is one of these goods that was reported stolen from a Boca Raton airplane hangar. The other was afterward put up for auction and sold for $4.6 million.
