BIG CAT WEEK is on NG WILD - http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/big-cat-week/ #bigcatweek
I am excited to bring my NG LIVE presentation, “On the Trail of Big Cats” to @natgeo’s Grosvenor Theater in Washington DC on April 13th! Please come to hear about my life and work with Jaguars, Snow Leopards, Cougars and Tigers!!
14 months old tiger cubs at their waterhole in Bandhavgargh National Park in India. This is a short film put together using camera trap images.

We need to realize deep in our hearts that animals have emotions too. If we can treat them better - maybe we could find some empathy inside of us to treat each other better also.
There are only 3400 tigers left in the wild! We need to fight for the right of tigers to live - peacefully and without being killed for the traditional medicine market, tiger bone wine, tiger skin furniture and other trade. Help stop the demand for endangered species used in this practice! “When the buying stops, the killing can too” #wildaid
Our animal family is so much like us - they find mates, they have kids, they have to feed themselves and their families,
they feed themselves and their families in the same way we as humans used to! If we can find a way to believe they think, feel and have emotions, maybe we can treat them better and find a way to ensure their future on this planet.
They are keystone species in their ecosystems, though we as humans are not.

I am excited to bring my NG LIVE presentation, “On the Trail of Big Cats” to @natgeo’s Grosvenor Theater in Washington DC on April 13th! Please come to hear about my life and work with Jaguars, Snow Leopards, Cougars and Tigers!! I am working on a @natgeo Jaguar story in the Pantanal of Brazil. Here a male walks on a bridge across a lake in Caiman Ecological Refuge. Jaguars are the 3rd largest of the big cats. Found from US / Mexico border to northern Argentina. Jaguars have rebounded in this area where 95% of the land is privately owned. In the past many ranchers would kill the cats when they ate their cattle. Today in this area tourism brings in much more money to the local economy than cattle ranching. So the jaguar population is increasing. But revenge killings of jaguars happen close to this area and all throughout the jaguars range. Also poaching for skins, bones and teeth is growing for the first time since the 1970’s to feed the demand for Asian Traditional Medicine and luxury items from endangered species. “Stop the demand and the killing can too.” @wildaid
Forests provide us with up to 50% of the oxygen we breathe - oceans the rest. They give us 75% of the fresh water.
If we can save the forest of the Amazon and other areas in Central and South America for the JAGUAR and Puma. The forests of Central Africa for the leopard, lion, elephants etc. And the forests of South Asia for the Tigers and Leopards. If you save the top predator in any ecosystem you save everything that lives with them.
So if - We Save Big Cats we can help Save Ourselves. Please visit CauseAnUproar.org to find out other ways to become involved to save big cats!

"Cowboys of Myanmar"
Local people need to benefit financially from living with predators. Conservation NGO’s have the programs to assist in better husbandry for protecting people’s livestock, like predator proof corrals, as long as the locals agree to not kill the predators.
Vaccination programs really help - they put more money in the pockets of the farmers by saving more of their livestock, that would have died of disease. Balancing the loss of livestock by a predator against the livestock that will be saved by vaccinations - in most instances up to 30% of their animals are saved each year, that would have died to disease - you are taking an economic negative and turning it into an economic positive.
As long as a program is set up so the community will not kill the big cats - as the people are benefitting financially by these programs.
The best way is to set up the programs for a 3 year period and then the community takes over the program and runs it themselves, paid for by the fact they have more money in their pockets - because they live with predators and work to both save more of their livestock from predator conflict and living within a ecosystem intact with predators. Studies have shown that farmers get higher crop yields and healthier livestock populations from living close to intact ecosystems and forests.

Forests and grasslands provide us with up to 50% of the oxygen we breathe - oceans the rest. They give us 75% of the fresh water.
If we can save the forest of the Amazon and other areas in Central and South America for the Jaguar and Puma. The forests and grasslands of Africa for the leopard, lion, cheetahs, elephants etc.
And the forests of South Asia for the Tigers and Leopards. If you save the top predator in any ecosystem you save everything that lives with them.
So if - We Save Big Cats we can help Save Ourselves.

BIG CAT WEEK starts today Monday Feb 20th! on NG WILD - http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/wild/big-cat-week/ #bigcatweek

I am working on a @natgeo Jaguar story in the Pantanal of Brazil. Here are 2 cubs cooling off and relaxing in a tree. My first story with big cats was the 1st @natgeo Jaguar story 20 years ago! It has changed my life working with the magical and magnificent cats of the world. Animals have emotions just like we have-kids hang out and play like these 2 cubs.. Forests provide us with up to 50% of the oxygen we breathe - oceans the rest. They give us 75% of the fresh water.
