Hey, DC. I see you. I don’t want to watch what’s happening to you now, but you’ve endured heartache and hardship and scandal. You’ve risen above before and you’ll rise above again. To the city that has my heart, I wish you strength in the days ahead, and hope and peace for all of your people. I hope you are not drained, but rather you are filled with compassion and understanding. I will continue to pray for my friends and loved ones who still call you home, and when I visit I will clap apologetic eyes upon your face. To those who are protesting, please remember that peaceful protest will bring you remembrance, violent protest will only bring you shame. I love you, DC, and all that you represent. In the meantime I’ll wipe my tears, and you’ll keep on, keeping on. We got you, DC.
